14-year-old hospitalized after chase with police in Marion

MARION (KWWL) -

Marion police say a 14-year-old was taken to the hospital following a 12-mile chase with police on Sunday morning.

Chief Harry Daugherty says officers saw a car drive over a curb and onto a sidewalk in the 1200 block of 7th Avenue at around 1:28 a.m. Sunday.

Officers say when they tried to stop the vehicle, the driver refused, starting a pursuit.

Daugherty says officers chased the vehicle north on Highway 151 until the driver lost control near the intersection with Linn-Jones Road.

The 14-year-old driver was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids for treatment of his injuries.

Daugherty says the accident remains under investigation and charges are pending.
