DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- A former nurse practitioner has pleaded guilty in St. Louis County to selling pain pills.
Prosecutors say 27-year-old Jill Karkoska, of Gilbert, admitted writing prescriptions for people and in return they would give her some of the medication. Under the law, the transaction amounts to a sale. The Duluth News Tribune (http://bit.ly/Vq8VJ0 ) says Karkoska prescribing more than 11,000 pain pills to people who were not her patients.
Karkoska told investigators she was chemically dependent on pain pills. She worked for Essentia Health System for about nine months before leaving last July.
The St. Louis County Attorney's Office will recommend five years of probation for Karkoska who has no prior criminal record.
