Black Hawks skate past Team USA 6-2

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The Waterloo Black Hawks never trailed Friday and pulled away to a 6-2 victory against the U.S. National Team Development Program Under-17 Team, following a big second period at Young Arena.

All three goals in the opening frame came on rushes into the offensive zone.  Moving up ice two-on-one, Waterloo's Vince Hinostroza zinged a wrist shot from the right wing circle past Edwin Minney at 10:23. Just over a minute later, Anders Bjork tied the game, stepping around a defender before sending a backhanded shot past the left skate of Eamon McAdam.  However, Waterloo went back in front at 13:01.  Jake Horton came barreling up right wing and let a shot go from a sharp angle.  It created a rebound for Austin Vieth to swat in for the go-ahead score.

A successful penalty kill was the springboard the Black Hawks needed to build their lead in the second.  Just out of the box, J.T. Stenglein flipped a shot under the crossbar at 1:32.  At 2:55, Waterloo made it 4-1 when Taylor Cammarata knocked a shot into an open side.  Sonny Milano's breakaway goal at 4:13, slowed the home team's momentum, but Pijus Rulevicius scored on a wraparound to reestablish a three goal cushion at 13:23.  Waterloo cashed in on a power play next to stretch the margin; an errant shot caromed off the end wall to Mark Friedman, who was on target from the right wing circle at 15:53.

It was all the scoring Waterloo would need as the teams sped through a scoreless third period.  The Hawks outshot NTDP in each frame and by a final total of 45-19.  McAdam made 17 saves for his tenth win of the season.
