Class 3A top-ranked Vinton-Shellsburg used a 22-2 run in the first half to race by Union Community 69-57 in a boys basketball game Thursday night in La Porte City.

Viking playmaker Max Kearns scored 17 points to go along with 10 assists and five rebounds.

Kelyn Rickels led Vinton-Shellsburg with 18 points while Max Griffith added 17 for the Vikings who improved to 9-0 with the win.
