One person is dead and another is being treated at a local hospital after they were found unconscious in ADM's corn wet mill in Cedar Rapids on Wednesday morning.
Jon D. Usher, 50, of Cedar Rapids, was pronounced dead at Mercy Medical Center, according to an obituary.
Another unnamed person was being treated at a different hospital.
Jackie Anderson, ADM spokesperson, says other employees found the two around 7 a.m. Wednesday morning and called emergency crews.
Anderson says ADM representatives are providing help and support to the families. Employee assistance is being provided to employees.
Anderson also says ADM management is on their way to the plant and are working with local emergency crews to determine the cause of the incident.
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of both colleagues, " Anderson said in a written statement.
Usher had been employed at ADM since 2006 after working at Nash Finch for more than 20 years, his obituary said.
He leaves behind three sons, two sisters, two nieces, a nephew and special friends known as the "J-Team," according to his obituary.
A visitation for Usher is from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. A Celebration of Life Service is at 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.
