MANKATO, Minn. (AP) -- A number of candidates are running or considering a run for an open southern Minnesota House seat.
DFL Rep. Terry Morrow of St. Peter resigned the seat last month. House District 19A covers Nicollet County and parts of north and west Mankato. Gov. Mark Dayton has yet to declare a vacancy and set a special election.
The Free Press in Mankato reports that Robin Courrier, a North Mankato teacher and union leader, is running (http://bit.ly/ZQLn4W). North Mankato pork producer Karl Johnson is also considering a Democratic bid.
Republican and former state legislator Allen Quist of St. Peter, who lost a congressional race in November, is considering a comeback attempt to the Legislature. Two businessmen, Jeff Thom of North Mankato and Tim Gieseke of Nicollet, might run for the Independence Party.
