ALBERT LEA, Minn. (KTTC) -- Some might take the cold weather as a sign to stay indoors but for others it was an invitation to spend the day on a lake.
In Albert Lea, many spent their Saturday on Albert Lea Lake ice fishing.
The ice was 6 inches thick, just enough to walk on.
Dave Westra has been ice fishing his whole life and says on days like today, even when the fish aren't biting, he still enjoys the sport.
"It's kind of a solitary thing. You know, I'll set up my hut here and put a little heat in it...just kind of sit comfortably, wait for my bobber to go down. If it doesn't ...got some fresh air and some exercise."
The Minnesota DNR recommends checking ice conditions with a local bait shop or a lakeside resort before heading out onto the ice.
