Another Cedar Rapids flood home catches fire

The Cedar Rapids Fire Department put out a fire at another flood home on Wednesday morning.

Greg Buelow, Public Information Officer for the CRFD, says a passerby noticed flames coming from 57 18th Avenue SW at around 7:23 a.m. Wednesday and called 9-1-1.

Buelow says the house had no door or windows, was stripped to the framing on the inside and appeared to be abandoned.

Firefighters say the fire was centered around the stairwell connecting the first and second floors.  Damage was contained to the stairwell, some framing on the first floor and some flooring on the second floor.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.  Buelow says there were no utilities connected to the home.

The fire department says this is the 38th fire in the flood zone since the floods of 2008.
