Pedestrian killed crossing Highway 10 in Anoka

Posted:

ANOKA, Minn. (AP) -- State troopers say a pedestrian who was crossing a highway in Anoka has died after being struck by a vehicle.

The Minnesota State Patrol says the accident happened Monday about 7:40 p.m. as the woman tried to cross Highway 10. Neither the woman nor the driver has been identified.

The accident happened about 1.5 miles from an intersection where a Texas couple was struck and killed two months ago. The two were crossing against a red light on foot when they were struck.

A Minneapolis Star Tribune report (http://bit.ly/TrKBWh ) says local officials would like to see overpasses built along parts of the highway to make it safer for pedestrians. However, the project is on indefinite hold because it would cost $300 million to $350 million.
