MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Minnesota is ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 for the first time since in almost two years.
The Gophers were 21st in the latest poll, released Monday. Their last appearance was the week of Jan. 31, 2011.
Sophomore point guard Andre Hollins was also named the Big Ten Player of the Week, the first such honor for a Gophers player in more than two years. Trevor Mbakwe (ihm-BAHK-way) was the winner on Nov. 22, 2010. Hollins scored 41 points in a win over Memphis, the fourth Gophers player ever to reach the 40-point mark and the first since 1971.
Hollins went 20 for 22 from the free-throw line in the Battle 4 Atlantis event, including three foul shots with 0.4 seconds left to break a tie and beat Stanford.
