MIDLAND, Texas (KTTC) -- Authorities say four people are dead and 17 others are injured after a train slammed into a parade float headed to a west Texas event honoring wounded veterans.
The city of Midland spokesperson said a train slammed into a parade float at a Union Pacific railroad crossing at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
The float was carrying war veterans and their spouses and was headed to a parade and banquet.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
The event was also supposed to include a hunting trip Friday, but organizers said all activities have been canceled.
The names of the dead are not yet known, but Wisconsin native Travis Reichert was one of the veterans being honored at the event.
