ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Several community members gathered Sunday to help out victims affected by Hurricane Sandy.
People made blankets and collected donations at the Hampton Inn in northwest Rochester.
Each person was asked to bring fleece to make no-sew tie blankets for adults and children. Baby and children's clothing and blankets were also collected.
They were only planning on taking a truck load, but now they have a trailer full of donations.
"We know there's a huge need for clothing and blankets and we had an idea to start with 12 blankets as the goal, and it turned into a trailer full," explained volunteer Lori Finlay.
The items will be shipped to a distribution center in Staten Island and another one in New York City.
Finlay said they were overwhelmed by the community's support.
