Raccoon bites girl near Austin

AUSTIN, Minn. (KTTC) -- A little girl was bitten by a raccoon in her backyard.

The parents of the 3-year-old girl reported the incident to the Mower County Sheriff's Office Tuesday morning.

The incident happened at the family's home in the 1700 block of 218th Street.

The girl was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin.

According to the report, the 3 year old had four small puncture wounds and scratches on her left arm.

Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi said they have received reports of odd behavior by raccoons in the area, mainly in rural areas by lakes and rivers.

The father of the girl was able to kill the raccoon and he took it to the Austin Veterinary Clinic.

The animal is being sent to the University of Minnesota for testing. Results are expected in a few weeks.
