ELBA, Minn. (KTTC) -- The Winona Co. Sheriff's Office is releasing new details on that hunting accident Friday morning near Elba.

Chief Deputy Ron Ganrude says a man and his 10-year-old son were squirrel hunting in the woods near Co. Road 26 when it happened.  About 9:30 a.m. Friday, the boy was behind his father and shifted a .22-caliber rifle from his left shoulder to his right when it discharged.  Ganrude says the safety was not "on."

The father was able to drive to a nearby farmhouse for help; he was airlifted to Saint Marys Hospital with a non-life threatening injury.
