Lillian Turner turns 100

Posted:

MABEL, Minn. (KTTC) -  A special happy birthday goes out to an area resident. Lillian Turner turns 100 Monday, October 15.

Hitting triple digits is just another milestone in Lillian turner's life as she sits with her kids and grand kids reminiscing on old family memories.

"Oh I had the best home life, because as a family everyone sang and everyone played. I didn't figure I was the best one out of the bunch," shares Lillian.

But that never bothered her, Lillian grew up alongside 10 other siblings and says the memories of performing were some of her most fond. She says, "I wore the battery up in my hair and I had lighted earrings and I was performing at a place in Las Vegas and as we came back through, two ladies came down from the bleachers and put their arms around me and said you light up my life."

That's exactly what she's been doing for those around her for nearly a century with her infectious laughter and positive spin on life. She says happiness is the key. "In my lifetime, when somebody says something to me I don't say 'eww it's awful today.' I always try to mention the good things and make them laugh."

Though she's no longer living her life on stage Lillian hasn't given up her hobbies. She continues to knit. It's a craft she taught to men and women for decades and something she looks forward to each day.

"Oh boy every minute I have, but I only make round dish-clothes now. It takes four hours to make each one." Says Lillian.

Lillian's kids and grand kids flew in for her party Saturday where she celebrated alongside more than 100 friends and family.

Red Wing Police are searching for a man after he escapes from the Emergency Room at Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing. Mayo Clinic in Red Wing Supervisor Philip Fusco said police brought in a suspect involved in a car chase, who then ran from the E.R., and into the woods. Since it's Sunday, the hospital is already completely locked, aside from the emergency room; so reports the hospital is on lock down are false.  At about 8 p.m., Fusco says state police reported...
