Police nab two car thieves red-handed

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Police say they caught two brothers red-handed, arresting them as prime suspects for breaking into and stealing things from several vehicles.

Eric Vargas, 20, and Santos Vargas, 25, are behind bars.

Rochester police tell us the thefts began Thursday afternoon near Silver Creek Road NE and East Circle Drive, as well as the parking lot at RCTC nearby.

One victim reported missing hunting equipment.

Officers later spotted the two suspects trying to break into a vehicle in Quarry Hill Nature Center.  They trailed them and made a traffic stop, and when arrested, officers say they found stolen merchandise dating back to thefts in mid-September in the men's vehicle along with some cocaine.

The two are charged with felony theft and 3rd degree possession of a controlled substance.
