CALEDONIA, Minn. (KTTC) -- The dream of a new aquatic center in Houston County lives on.
Residents have been busy raising the $1.7 million to build it.
The Fundraising Steering Committee said Thursday it has come a long way in reaching its goal, raising more than $900,000 so far.
The center will be built in Caledonia.
Committee members said they're soliciting everyone for pledges because they say the current pool desperately needs renovation.
"Our current facility is about 60 years old," said Campaign Co-Chair Tim Murphy. "It needs constant repair. Each year it's a question of whether we can even open it
A highlight of the new facility includes a nearly $200,000 water slide. Community leaders said the new aquatic center must be built with key features that'll make it fun and profitable for many years.
