ROCHESTER (KTTC) -- The Rochester School Board approved a preliminary property tax levy for 2013.
The district chose a maximum levy of $37.1 million.
That's a 1.6% decrease from last year's levy.
When budgets are being figured out for 2013, the district cannot go above that number but they can lower it.
The public will be allowed to comment on the levy during a special session on December 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Edison building.
The school board will then adopt the district's tax levy on December 11.
School board members also approved plans for a new facility to house the Area Learning Center education programs.
It will be located at 37 Wood Lake Drive SE (Rochester Market Square).
