Tuesday marks a bittersweet day in the search for Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins. The cousins went missing from Evansdale more than two and a half months ago. Tuesday night, family members are celebrating a milestone in Lyric's life -- her eleventh birthday.
It looked just like any child's birthday party inside the Countryside Vineyard Church in Evansdale. Kids were decorating cookies, making bracelets, and handing out hundreds of purple balloons. Only the birthday girl, and her cousin, weren't there.
"You just, you wonder where they're at. You wonder what's happening to them. Wonder when will they be coming home. And you try your hardest to push out any negative thoughts. Because there are many that try to go through your head," said Lyric's mother, Misty Morrissey.
The Cook and Collins families have marked several of these occasions since Lyric and Elizabeth disappeared nearly twelve weeks ago. They hope each one will be the last one they celebrate without their girls.
"I hope the next celebration is that they're coming home and that they're home. That's the only celebration I hope for. I don't want to do no more vigils. I want to see their faces and know that they're going to be home," said the girls' cousin, Haley Bertch.
Families at the party realized no amount of icing or bracelets could make their nightmare end. But keeping Lyric and Elizabeth's images, and their spirit, fresh in our minds may help solve this case, and bring the girls home.
"They're going to come home. That's the only think I can think," said Bertch.
"In that darkest hour is really when you have to stand solid on your faith, that you truly believe God has a hand in this," said Morrissey.
If you have any information that could help find these girls, you are urged let the authorities know.
