ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Undercover officers stop a man attempting to sell a stolen vehicle from a Rochester dealership.
According to Rochester Police Captain Brian Winters, Michael Alcott, 51, was arrested last night around 9 when he attempted to sell a Subaru to an undercover officer from Clements near Apache Mall.
Alcott was an employee and had made arrangements to sell the brand new vehicle for $2,000.
When Alcott exchanged keys to the Subaru for the money and attempted to leave the scene he was taken into custody and could face a felony charge of motor vehicle theft.
Clements dealer Jim Orke tells the NewsCenter their first reaction to the incident was shock and disappointment. We're told Alcott is a father of two and those with Clements are thinking especially of his family at this time and the impact it will have on them. Orke says Clements does do background checks but could not comment further on Alcott's history.
Rochester police say Alcott has an extensive criminal history including fraud, theft and extortion.
