Rush Creek bike trail near completion

RUSHFORD, Minn. (KTTC) -- It won't be much longer before bicyclists pedal their way down a new route while traveling along the Root River bike trail in Rushford.

It's one more place in southeast Minnesota bikers will be able to hit the trails. Much of the trail was made possible by a $300,000 grant from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. The trail connects the Root River trail to Creekside Park in Rushford.

The path will follow Highway 43 for a short distance and continue west until its destination at the bottom of Magelssen Bluff.

According to City Administrator Steve Sarvi, the main reason behind the new path was safety and to add more trail options.

Also atop of Magelssen Bluff is a park, and Sarvi hopes more people will enjoy the view after making the hike up the hillside.

The Rush Creek Bike Project will be completed by October.
