MINNESOTA (KTTC) - August was the deadliest month of the year for motorcyclists in Minnesota.

Last month 11 riders were killed on state roadways. That brings the total motorcycle deaths to 40 this year. That compares to only 29 at this time last year.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the cost of fuel is one of the reasons more people are choosing to ride motorcycles.

Ridership is at an all-time high in Minnesota with more than 400,000 licensed operators.
