CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

The new wife of an embattled CEO says she didn't know the man she was marrying.

Court records indicate Nancy Paladino filed for an annulment on Aug. 13 in Clark County, Nevada. That's where she and Peregrine Financial Group CEO Russell Wasendorf, Sr. were married on June 30. It was a surprise move as the couple had an August wedding planned in Iowa.

Days later, Wasendorf attempted to commit suicide behind the company headquarters in Cedar Falls. According to court documents, the suicide note left for his new wife and his son detailed more than 20 years of fraud at the company. Wasendorf, Sr. has been charged with lying to regulators and there is an estimated $200 million missing from the company. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Paladino's complaint says the marriage came under "false pretenses."
