Volunteers prepare for VP Joe Biden's Rochester visit

ROCHESTER (KTTC) -- Tickets to see Vice President Joe Biden in Rochester are sold out.

Biden will speak in the Floral Hall at the Olmsted County Fairgrounds on Tuesday.

Doors open by 2:30 p.m., program starts at 3:30 p.m., and Biden is expected to speak after 4:30 p.m.

"Oh, it's really exciting. I found out before I could tell anybody and when I told my children, I have twins in college, they were so excited that this was happening. It's a big deal. We have the vice president of the United States coming here," said Deb Duffy-Smet, Olmsted County-25 DFL chair.

More than 600 tickets were distributed up until Monday afternoon.

Supporters checked in with people who were granted tickets to make sure they are still attending the rally.

If they aren't, someone from a waiting list will get the chance to see Biden speak.

"It's very upbeat. Everyone is excited. Everyone is willing to pitch in and help and do all we can to make this work," said Ginny Engle, a volunteer for the Obama-Biden campaign.

The vice president is expected to enter the Olmsted County Fairgrounds between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.

The excitement isn't overshadowed by issues spectators want to hear the vice president speak on, including the economy, health care and education.

"We need a good education for our kids, for the future. It's the most important part. If we don't have an education, we don't have a country," said Angel Morales, with Education Minnesota.

Morales went on to say, "This is history... this is something you learn and you become part of."

The Rochester Police Department is requesting people who do not want to attend, to try to avoid areas around the Rochester International Airport (RIA) and the Olmsted County Fairgrounds, as roads may be shut down.

However, officials at RIA will neither confirm nor deny if Biden will be flying into Rochester.
