AUSTIN, Minn. (KTTC) -- A new school in Austin will need a name.
The school naming committee gave the Austin School Board Monday night a list of five possible names for the new 5th and 6th grade school set to open in fall 2013.
The names include Evergreen, Maria Vaughn, George A. Hormel or George and Lillian Hormel, Ralph T. Holman, and I.J. Holton.
"We used the school board criteria as well as information that we knew about where the school is going to be, and used those as criteria to evaluate names and ultimately come up with the recommended five," said John Alberts, educational services director for Austin Public Schools.
The school naming committee received 84 possible names from the public before narrowing the list to five.
The Austin School Board will take an initial vote on the names later this month, and make a final decision in December.
