Cedar Rapids native Landon Cassill and his teammate, Travis Kvapil, will include pictures of Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins on their Sprint Cup cars at Pocono Raceway this weekend.
BK Racing announced on Thursday that the pictures of the missing Evansdale girls along with a hotline phone number to call with information will be on the deck lid of Cassill's No. 83 Toyota and Kvapil's No. 93 Toyota at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Pennsylvania 400 at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania on Sunday.
Elizabeth Collins and Lyric Cook were last seen on July 13 in Evansdale. Their bikes were found at the edge of Meyers Lake after leaving their grandmother's house.
Cassill, a native of Cedar Rapids, just wants to help bring attention to the case.
"The group leading the search efforts have been contacting as many people as possible about this case to help spread the word," Cassill said in a written statement. "We were contacted, at first, through Twitter and we were able to help out there, but then called them to see if we could help more. Being from Iowa, and having some other folks in the sport from Iowa, we're all pulling together to raise as much attention as possible to help locate the two missing girls. I really want to do as much as possible and this is one step. I can't thank the team enough for doing this."
Kvapil, who has three kids himself, hopes this will put a national spotlight on the investigation.
"As a parent, I want to do anything I can to help the families locate their children," Kvapil said in a written statement. "I'm pleased that we have the special decals on our cars this weekend and I hope that this will aid in the search."
Another Iowa native, Michael Annett, will run a similar deck lid on his No. 43 Nationwide Series car at the Iowa Speedway on Saturday in the U.S. Cellular 250.
Anyone with information that might lead to the return of Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins is asked to call 319-232-6682.
