ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- A 20-year-old man accused of stealing merchandise from Walmart started a pursuit that lasted for several hours on Sunday.
Just after 1:30 p.m., Blake Knutson allegedly wheeled a cart with merchandise out of the south Walmart without paying and got into his car. Police were notified and stopped Knutson a short distance from the store.
Police say Knutson stopped his vehicle momentarily, but fled. Police ended the pursuit because they knew the suspect and it was a risk to the public.
About 1½ hours later, officers found Knutson near the Recreation Center in northwest Rochester, approached him on foot and commanded him to exit his car.
Knutson allegedly drove his vehicle at the officers, who had to jump out of the way.
At 9:25 p.m. an officer saw Knutson in the 1600 block of 1st St. SW and ordered him to stop. Knutson began to run on foot, but surrendered after an officer ran him down.
Knutson is charged with fleeing in a motor vehicle, fleeing on foot, 4th degree assault on an officer and numerous traffic violations.
