ALBERT LEA, Minn. (KTTC) -- As our Olympians start their competitions in London, some of the best water skiers in the country took to the waters of Albert Lea to show off their talents.
The Midwest Regional Water ski Tournament is taking place at Edgewater Park this weekend.
Teams from across Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin are vying for spots in the national competition.
Albert Lea played host to the event two years ago and organizers have marketed this year's competition to get more locals to check it out.
For those who have not seen a water ski show, it can be pretty exciting.
"If people come out here, they will see a ton of excitement," says Alex Burkhard, a tournament co-director. "I don't know if they've seen the Bayside Water ski Show or not, but these are much bigger teams, you can expect 3-4-3 high pyramids and teams with 100 skiers out there."
Kelli Hanson, also a tournament co-director, says that "It's just a unique sport that no one really knows about, so it's just cool to have people see it.
The Water-hawks from Waterloo, Iowa performed a Top Gun routine to start off Saturday's show. They are the defending champions of the Midwest Regional competition.
