MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) -- A Mason City man has been sentenced to life in prison for an August 2011 shooting of another man in a convenience store parking lot.

Thirty-two-year-old Jamaal Joshua Leslie was sentenced Friday. Leslie was convicted in June of shooting 27-year-old Brandon Crawford of Mason City in the parking lot of a Casey's General Store.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports District Judge Rustin Davenport denied a defense request for a new trial. Defense attorney Charles Kenville declined to comment as he left the courtroom.

Leslie also was ordered to pay $150,000 in restitution to the victim's estate and $9,000 to the state's Crime Victim's Assistance Program.
