Task force: Strengthen Minn. anti-bullying law

Updated:

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- A state task force says Minnesota should pass a comprehensive, strongly worded anti-bullying law.

Gov. Mark Dayton's Task Force on the Prevention of School Bullying approved a 35-page draft report on Tuesday.

Task force co-chairman Walter Roberts tells the Star Tribune that members will consider amendments at another meeting next week. Further revisions are likely before the report is due on Gov. Mark Dayton's desk on Aug. 1

Minnesota currently has the shortest anti-bullying law in the nation, at 37 words. It requires only that districts have written policies in place prohibiting all forms of intimidation and bullying.

The 14-member task force set to work in April to study the problem of bullying and make policy recommendations.
