Marina making waves - KTTC Rochester, Austin, Mason City News, Weather and Sports

ORONOCO, Minn. (KTTC) -- After some hefty ripples in the water plans to move a marina have come to rest.  Kings Marina on the south shores of Lake Zumbro had its eyes set on relocating to a more centralized location.  But not anymore.

The process began in June when the owner, Mark Skaran, signed a letter of intent to purchase property on the north shore to relocate his marina.  The plan was hit with a hurdle from the get-go.

The property was zoned under agricultural land and needed to be switched to commercial use.... which Skaran applied for with Olmsted County.

Meanwhile, aside from legal parameters, many close neighbors to the site were strongly opposed, saying the relocation will increase boating traffic in Rousch's Bay and the road to the marina will also see increased traffic.

According to Skaran, the seller of the property was a recipient of harsh criticism.  For that reason, the he decided to back down his offer to avoid further conflict with lake residents.
