Winona County Fair Opens

ST. CHARLES, Minn. (KTTC) -- The area's first county fair kicked off Wednesday afternoon in St. Charles.

A lot went on during the first day of the Winona County Fair.

Fair staff prepared the cows and pigs to be judged. Whether it is brushing or cleaning them, months of getting these animals into pristine shape has come down to one night.

"It seems like it takes forever and then when it's here it's like I wish I could do it right back again. They're looking for muscle in their backbend and how it fills out.

If their body's fatter or how it's skinny and it goes with the skin," said Isaiah and Mitchell from St.Charles.

And all of the judging to show off all of that hard work will take place Thursday night.

On the Road: Kenyon, home of the boulevard of roses

Welcome to Kenyon!  Home of the boulevard of roses, the town is filled with visitors this weekend for Rose Fest.  Kenyon was founded back in 1856, but the first rose wasn't planted in Kenyon until 1962 when Lloyd Jystad approached the city with an idea to liven up the boulevard.  With a little help and the continued support from the City of Kenyon, this idea flourished into the nearly 100 tree roses that stand today.
