ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- An apartment complex in northwest Rochester is going completely smoke-free.
The Villages at Essex Park made the decision after reviewing a survey that showed 79 percent of Olmsted County residents want to live in a smoke-free environment.
Enforcement will begin in all 14 buildings July 1st.
The complex is the first property in Rochester to ban smoking.
Residents will not be allowed to smoke inside apartments, on porches, or around any buildings. They will have access to designated smoking areas.
Manager Eric Boline says some residents who do smoke are thankful for the policy because they are hopeful it will help them quit.
