Updated:

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- Bail is set at $1 million for a Cloquet man charged in the cold-case killing of a 33-year-old woman in 2000.

Forty-one-year-old Joseph Couture was arraigned Monday on charges of intentional second-degree murder and second-degree criminal sexual conduct in the death of Trina Langenbrunner.

Langenbrunner was last seen hitchhiking early on Sept. 3, 2000. Couture was a neighbor of Langenbrunner at that time. The victim's stabbed body was discovered off a rural road in southern St. Louis County.

According to the complaint, a witness told investigators Couture went to a bar on Sept. 2, 2000. When Couture returned, the witness said, he was covered in blood and demanded that his van be washed immediately.

The Duluth News Tribune reports Couture is due back in court June 28.
