CANNON FALLS, Minn. (KTTC) -- Residents in Cannon Falls are bracing themselves for possible storms this weekend after serious flooding.

Heavy rains sent two rivers in Cannon Falls over their banks.

By Friday morning, the Cannon River rose 28 inches.

The Little Cannon River rose 39 inches and crested at 20.4 feet, breaking its record of 16.5 feet from the floods in September of 2010.

Mary Horwath lives right next to the Little Cannon River and watched as the water receded.

"This morning when we got up it was quite a bit higher. This bridge was... the water that's flowing right behind me was just touching the bottom of the bridge here," Horwath said.

The Cannon River flooded into Hannah's Bend Park.

Joe VanBoxel and his friends took advantage of the carp that surfaced near the shore.

"Last year around our homecoming, actually.. it was probably just as bad," VanBoxel said.

Bridges and pathways to the rivers are still closed off.

More than 8 inches of rain fell on Thursday in Cannon Falls.

There were reports of minor damage.
