10 Who Make A Difference: Hy-Vee Stores

Posted:

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC)- We continue honoring 10 Who Make A Difference with a business that is very hard to miss in Rochester and their dedication to helping out a local food shelf has them making a difference every single day.

Nominated by the Channel One Food Bank, the Rochester Hy-Vees are the epitome of selfless giving and dedication to a good cause.

A relationship that spreads 20 years, Hy-Vee welcomes the Channel One truck every day for food donations that keep the shelves well-stocked. In 2011, donations totaled over 132,000 pounds.

They give customers a chance to donate, having food bags for sale that go directly to the food bank, as well as helping out with events like Mile of Mac and Cheese, Stamp Out Hunger and the Holiday Train.

While their list of generosity goes on, those with Hy-Vee are quick to credit everyone they serve.

"We have a great history with Channel One, and really it stems from, for the most part, from having great customers," says Melissa Draheim, the store director of Hy Vee North. "We have customers that are very much wanting to help Channel One and then, obviously, we want to help Channel One, so it's been a good partnership with our customers."

Channel One Food Bank says the generosity of the Hy-Vee stores allows them to keep going and to expand their abilities to serve the Rochester community.

If you would like to see the Hy-Vee stores receive their award, they will be honored, along with the other recipients, at Rochesterfest next Wednesday at 1 P.M. on the main stage.

We will also be streaming the ceremony over the web this year at www.kttc.com.
