Ten Who Make a Difference: The Podein Family

Posted:

STEWARTVILLE, Minn. (KTTC) -- "Rochesterfest" kicks off it's 10 day celebration on Friday and on Wednesday, all of us here at KTTC will be honoring "Ten Who Make a Difference.

Meet a family who volunteers a lot of time to be active in the Stewartville Fire Department: Mike, Mark, Ryan, and Josh Podein from Stewartville.

The Podein family consists of two father-son duos. They were nominated for their outstanding commitment to their community and the fire department.  The owners of Podeins Power Equipment, if a fire or first response call occurs, the family puts their business on hold to go above and beyond the call of duty. Even if all 4 of them can't respond to a call, at least one member of the family "always" goes. The family said this nomination, came as quite a surprise.

"It was quite a privilege and an honor to be chosen we just couldn't believe it when we got our letters notifying us. One of the local fire personnel, a gal on the department, nominated us and we didn't know anything about it, we got a letter and just could not believe it," explained Mark Podein.

As for just who nominated the family, it was Lisa Jelinek.

If you would like to see the Podein family receive their award, they and the other recipients will be honored at Rochesterfest on June 20th at 1 p.m. on the main stage. We'll also be streaming the ceremony over the web this year.
