Motocross rider killed at Springcreek while doing practice jumps

Updated:

MILLVILLE, Minn. (KTTC-TV) -- A man practicing jumps at the Springcreek Motocross Park was killed on Saturday afternoon at the track near Millville.

Wabasha County Chief Deputy Joe Modjeski tells KTTC NewsCenter that Dale Joseph Howard, 53, of Andover took a practice jump when the accident happened.

"Howard went airborne... and crashed into the hard track," said Modjeski.  "He was unresponsive on the track.  Medics gave him CPR on the scene, and Mayo One was called.  But he was pronounced dead at the track at 4:37."

Chief Deputy Modjeski says there were no races scheduled on Saturday when the fatal crash happened.

A call to Springcreek Motocross Park for more information on the accident was not returned.

Motocross is a thrilling sport, but as you can see from a "helmet cam" video shot back in May during a run on the track, it carries an element of risk.
