A warning about door-to-door sales people

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC)-- Most of us have experienced door-to-door sales people, but beware. Several insulation contractors are claiming to be affiliated with Minnesota Energy Resources.

Just within the last week there have been several complaints concerning these door-to-door contractors. They say they're agents of Minnesota Energy Resources, this is not true.

Minnesota Energy says it does not authorize anybody to do work under its name.

Typically, reports are similar in Rochester. A contractor comes to the door, offering home insulation, and claiming to be with Minnesota Energy.

Minnesota Energy does offer energy efficiency program rebates, but not through contractors.

However, contractors may provide rebate information to customers.

Many who experienced this said it was overwhelming.

Greg Walters with Minnesota Energy Resources Corporation says, "That's what we've heard from customers is that they're fairly aggressive in their sales tactics. We're not really sure the quality of their work."

At least one of the contractors they're aware of doesn't even have a contractor's license. They do use different company names.

Walters recommends getting at least two to three bids for any work being done prior to purchasing services.

He also suggests reporting any instances like this to the Minnesota Better Business Bureau.

The Rochester Police Department is currently investigating the situation.
