Two injured in house explosion

HARTLAND, Minn. (KTTC)-- A house explosion just north of Freeborn has injured an elderly couple.

Friday afternoon medical and fire personnel were dispatched to a home in Hartland and upon arrival saw a structure engulfed in flames.

Officials were sent to the former home of Patricia and Ralph Yotter.

Patricia made the call to 911 saying her husband had been injured in an explosion.

Ralph Yotter was quickly transported by helicopter to North Memorial Hospital for treatment of burns on multiple areas of his body.

Patricia was transported by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Albert Lea for non-burn injuries related to the fire.

The cause of the explosion and fire is currently unknown, but an investigation by the State Fire Marshall and Freeborn Fire is underway.

The structure is reported as a total loss.

"I was expecting it to actually be worse than it was," says Freeborn Fire Department Chief Steve Seipp. "But as it turns out, the structure is still standing. It is totally destroyed, but it is standing. No loss of life, so that's the main thing."

The Yotters had recently sold the property and were not living in the home at the time.

The condition of Ralph Yotter is unknown at this time.
