ALBERT LEA, Minn. (KTTC)- One couple in Albert Lea received the surprise of a lifetime Thursday morning as volunteers arrived to give them a home makeover.
The volunteers arrived at the home of Gary and Jackie Shuck Thursday at 8 a.m. to begin a thorough remodel.
They were identified as a family who has given back significantly to Albert Lea over the years.
Thanks to numerous area businesses, the Shucks received a new patio, a brand-new garden, new paint on the windows and foundation, plants and shrubberies around the outside of the home, and Gary was given a new recliner.
Gary's brother, Donald, who lives with them, could not think of more deserving people for a surprise like this.
"My brother and his wife do so much for everybody else. If somebody needs help and they can help them, they will do it. And I'm proud to have a brother like that."
It was two months in the making, but may not have even happened at all.
Two weeks ago, Jackie suffered a heart attack. She was rushed to the hospital and was told she barely made it through.
She said she had planned on doing something like this but just could not do it on her own and considers her and Gary very blessed to be given such a generous gift.
