KENYON, Minn. (KTTC) -- Thousands of peony blossoms are exploding in Kenyon.
The peony bush flowers for a short time but when it does it's a sight to see. The unusually warm and early spring has made for an early bloom this year.
Typically the Rohl's will have varieties that bloom from Memorial Day through Father's Day. This year by Father's Day the plants will have already be done blooming. But the bushes aren't transplanted until the fall.
Dawn Rohl, co-owner of Aspelund Peony Gardens says, "You only get the bloom for a week or two weeks and that's what's sad about them but I think that's what makes them special. Kind of makes it a special treat every spring to see your peony come."
The Rohl's have lived on the property in Kenyon for 19 years. They've now accumulated more than 4,000 bushes.
They say it all began as a hobby that got out of control and they finally decided it was time to share. That's when they created Aspelund Peony Gardens.
