Southeast Rochester neighborhood sees spike in crime

Posted:

ROCHESTER (KTTC) -- A Rochester woman says she's scared to go home after a burglary at her place last week.

It's the fourth disruption to the 13th Street SE neighborhood in the past two months.

The first happened in the end of March, when a rock crashed into Jim Gardner's front window.

"I was a little paranoid and a little on edge from that point forward and sure enough about 10 days later they did it once again with one of my northside bedroom windows," Gardner said.

Then two weeks ago, burglar/s broke into a house just two doors down from Gardner's across the street.

Finally, last week Kathy H's home (next door to the last burglary) was broken into.

"Normally people think about going on vacation and being gone for a few days and they worry about their homes. Nobody imagines going to the grocery store and realize their house is getting burglarized while they're gone," Kathy said.

Burglar or burglars entered through a window, taking her flat screen TV, and even raiding her freezer.

"There's a word called violated but I'm past that. I'm angry," Kathy said.

Earlier this month, Rochester police began investigating a crime spree that involved more than 70 victims of car prowls, burglaries and thefts.

13th Street SE is on the higher end of at-risk spots.

"You'd think it'd have to be someone with knowledge of this neighborhood that would be so brazen as to do three houses in a row. Even though they were several weeks apart," Gardner said.

The burglaries on 13th Street SE are under investigation.

If you have any information that could help, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
