Rochester student in National Spelling Bee

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Five Minnesota students are competing in the National Spelling Bee this week near Washington D.C.

Two-hundred-78 young competitors are taking a computerized test Tuesday. Those results are combined with onstage competition Wednesday to determine Thursday's semifinalists in the 85th annual bee.

The Star Tribune says the Minnesota students include: seventh-graders Emma Greenlee of Mesabi East in Aurora; Elise Stahl, a home-schooled student from Greenfield; Antony Joseph, of Fairmont Junior High; and eighth-graders Roshini Asirvatham, of Friedell Middle School in Rochester; and Matthew Majerle, of Forestview Middle School in Baxter.

A spelling champion will be crowned Thursday night.
