DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- A horse that owes his life to members of the St. Louis County Search and Rescue Team is again grazing in his Midway Township pasture.
It could have turned out much differently for the 1,000-pound Tennessee walker named Teddy who wandered into a nearby bog last week, sank to his hips in the muck and became snarled in tree roots.
Teddy's owner, Julie Sedin, her father, son-in-law and veterinarian used a tractor, cargo straps and ropes in a fruitless effort to free her beloved gelding. Knowing it had come down to a life-or-death decision, Sedin called 911.
The Duluth News Tribune says the rescue team quickly assembled. The crew used big sheets of plywood and pushed the horse from one board to the next. Sedin says she's grateful the crew never gave up on Teddy.
