Stay out of the sun run

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC)-- Friday night a group of runners in Rochester put a spotlight on skin cancer. More than a thousand people took part in the 7th Annual Stay out of the Sun Run.

This year the run saw it's biggest turnout. It's a 5-K and 10-K.

The purpose is to raise awareness on how deadly the sun can be.

All proceeds will benefit melanoma research and education.

Susan Burriss' husband, Tim, is a skin cancer survivor and also president of the group.

Susan has seen how our view towards sun exposure has changed over the years, "A lot of people use more sunscreen, wear sunglasses to protect their eyes, sun protective clothing. There's just so much more awareness than there was maybe 10, 15 years ago."

If you know someone who participated in this year's run you can check out their results on the Stay Out of the Sun Run web site.
