A local therapy dog's background makes him famous

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Every week we feature several pet rescue organizations here on KTTC, such as Paws and Claws, Small Dog rescue and Camp Companion. A Rochester man is a big fan of animal rescue in fact, one of his beloved four legged friends is famous in a way. After "finding" each other they now do what they can to help support pet shelters. We caught up with them today as they were delivering a thousand pounds of food to Paws And Claws.

Meet Roo Yori, a supporter of animal safety, and one of his rescue dogs, Hector.

"Hector was one of the dogs rescued from the Michael Vick case and who is now a certified therapy dog," explained Yori.

Hector has scars on his body from his fighting days, but his personality is gentle. At first he was bashful. In fact, he hid from one of Yori's other dogs, a small 13 pound Aussie.

"He is an amazing dog, really resilient, very independent. Once he got out of that situation and was given a chance just to be a dog, this is who he really is," stated Yori.

Between walks, visiting the nursing home and even mayo Clinic, Hectors schedule is pretty busy.

"We've actually done a lot of work with elementary schools and children about dog safety about how to approach a dog and act appropriately around them to keep them safe," said Yori.

From a life of crime, to helping others Hector is proof that you should never judge a book by its cover.

The thousand pounds of food Roo and Hector were delivering today was all part of a Facebook campaign by the pet food supplier: Zeus and Company

Listen up pet lovers, for every "like" on their FB page, they promised to donate a pound of food to an animal shelter.
