Vikings bill coming close to a vote

Posted: Updated:

ST. PAUL, Minn. (KTTC)-- The Vikings' bid for a nearly one-billion dollar stadium is nearing a time for decision.

Wednesday lawmakers at the capitol continued to further the stadium bill, but not without a few delays along the way. The bill reached the Finance Committee and will likely reach the Tax Committee Thursday morning.

Under the stadium plan the Vikings with some help from the NFL would contribute $427 million to the nearly $1 billion dollar project. The state would have to contribute $398 million.

In Wednesday's Senate Finance Committee meeting a surprise addition to the bill. Racinos, a previously rejected thought is now added to the plan. They will be a contributor, through the taxing of electronic pull tabs.

Keep in mind this could easily be changed with an author's amendment-- knocking it back off the proposed bill.

More of out of Wednesday, Republican Senator Julianne Ortman requested that the bill be re-routed to the tax committee after passing though finances, once again delaying a floor vote.

As they continue to revise the bill, so many details are coming out that it's really anybody's guess when it's going to reach a floor vote, but there's less than a week left in this year's session... not leaving much time before a vote must be cast.
