La Crosse, WI  (WXOW) ----- This evening WXOW TV 19 held an event to honor community members at the Annual Jefferson's Award Banquet at Piggy's restaurant in La Crosse.

The Jefferson Awards are a prestigious honor and considered to be the Nobel Prize for public service.   Since it's inception in 1972, the meaning has stayed the same, that one person can and will make a difference.

At the beginning of the year WXOW, along with Altra Credit Union and Trust Point set out to recognize "ordinary" people doing extraordinary things and share their story on News 19.   Now only one will go on to Washington DC to compete in the national competition.

That person is John Young, a man who literally transformed the Village of Soldier's Grove. To learn more about this year's Jefferson Award recipients go to our website...wxow.com and click on the Jefferson Awards tab.
