Ways of the cross

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC)-- As millions of Christians across the United States celebrate Good Friday, members of Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church are doing their own annual tradition.

They have made their way through downtown Rochester performing the Way of the Cross, remembering the path that Jesus took to his crucifixion.

People met at the government center, singing songs and acknowledging the first station, when Jesus was condemned to death by Pontius Pilate.

The stations of the cross show a pictorial representation of the final moments of Jesus and commemorate the Passion. There are a total of 14 stations, however, some acknowledge a 15th, that celebrates *Christ's* resurrection.

Father Jerry Mahon states, "It was on this Good Friday that Jesus Christ redeemed the world and changed history forever so the sense of following and because the cross will lead this procession all will walk two-by-two in silence recalling in their own hearts who Jesus Christ is."

Father Mahon led members of the church made as they made stops at four different locations, ending here at the Church of Saint John the Evangelist to commemorate the crucifixion.
